It all "boils" down to money

People often forget that environmental issues are often about money. Fair enough, everybody is rather keen to save the world, but if you are unable to pay for a nice new energy efficient home then it is not going to happen. Cost comes first. However, in the case of boilers, things are much more clear cut. A bad boiler costs money; so in this case the environment and your wallet are on the same side.

Energy inefficient boilers not only waste peoples’ money but they affect the environment insofar as the energy being generated unnecessarily is causing CO2 emissions to rise. Energy efficient boilers are therefore exactly the way to go. Now, at first the price for a brand new boiler is going to seem horrific, but as with most environmental ideas this thing requires patience. And not even that much. A new high-efficiency boiler could cut your heating bills by up to 40 per cent straight away - so you’ll make savings and help the environment over time.

The best high efficiency condensing boilers convert more than 90 per cent of fuel into heat, compared to just 55 per cent for some old boilers. It’s better not to wait until your boiler breaks down before looking for a new one as you’ll probably end up paying more for it that way. If your boiler is old and you know that it will be packing up soon, start shopping around so that you don’t make a panic buy that will cost you even more. The best place to start when sorting out your gas and electric problems is with British Gas. They are a big, well-know and reputable company that literally do thousands of boiler repairs every month.

That said, make sure that you opt for an A-grade high-efficiency boiler carrying the Energy Saving Recommended logo. A-grade boilers convert at least 90 per cent of their fuel into heat and only these boilers carry the logo. Many will also be future-proof which will allow you to connect innovative, new, energy-saving technologies as they become available and more affordable.
