Energy Tips
Trying to go green is something that everyone should be trying to do at the moment. The environmental crisis is probably the most severe threat facing us as, and it can only really be fully tackled if everyone chips in. However, there are so many different ways we can go about going green that often it is hard to know where to start.
Some things are so confusing it puts people off all together and no-one actually starts in the first place. This is silly. The best thing to do is to focus on the areas where your actions will make the most difference. Making changes in what you eat, the way you get around, and how you use energy at home (and work) will have the biggest impact on the planet.
Firstly, eat less meat. Raising livestock is one of the most significant contributors to a long list of environmental problems from climate change to deforestation to water pollution. No one is suggesting you go vegan, but anything you can do to cut back on meat will make a big difference.
Secondly, take good care of your car. Tuning up your engine, replacing your air filters and motor oil regularly, and keeping your tires properly inflated will improve your car's fuel economy by 8% to 20%, according to Jenny Powers at the Natural Resources Defence Council.
Thirdly, and this is the big one, sort out how your energy works. Get yourself a decent boiler. Worcester Central heating boilers are the current industry darlings when it comes to energy efficient appliances, but you may well be able to find other deals. If you don’t want to go the whole hog get your current boiler serviced as this will save you lots of money in energy that is being wasted. It will also help cut down your emissions in total. There are many companies to choose from, but British Gas have an excellent reputation for good services with boiler maintenance and replacement.
It is not rocket science, you don’t need to go crazy, and it shouldn’t take up your whole life, but doing a little every day is the best way to go green.
