Cranfield launches new M.Sc courses

Cranfield University has launched two new MSc courses that are designed to equip engineering professionals with the knowledge and expertise required to meet the needs of the energy industry as it evolves to combat climate change.g

The MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering and MSc in Carbon Capture and Transport are designed for graduates who wish to enter the sector as well as current professionals who wish to develop their career potential.

With a growing global commitment to produce renewable energy, demand is increasing for suitably qualified engineers. The MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering is designed to provide graduates with the electro-mechanical, structures and fluid dynamics background to fully understand renewable energy systems. The course will also equip graduates with the advanced interdisciplinary skills required to design, optimise and evaluate the technical and economic viability of renewable energy schemes.

Along with pledging to meet renewable power generation targets, the UK and other developed countries have additionally set ambitious targets to reduce carbon emissions through carbon capture and storage. To meet these targets a supply of well qualified engineers and academic researchers will be required to design, construct and operate carbon capture facilities for new and existing fossil fuel fired power plants. The new MSc in Carbon Capture and Transport has been developed to respond to these needs.

“Over the coming years we face an unprecedented energy revolution with every country needing highly educated engineers to understand and apply a vast array of new and varied energy generation systems and approaches. The Cranfield energy courses with close industry involvement will train bright and talented engineers to be technical leaders in this exciting new energy era” said Feargal Brennan, Head of Offshore, Process and Energy Engineering at Cranfield University.

Further details of the new courses, which may be taken on a full or part-time basis, are available on our website at
